Error Message: "controller kernel stopped running"

The Adaptec controller BIOS shows the following error message during system boot or while performing an operation in the Array Configuration Utility (ACU):
"Adaptec RAID BIOS V5.2-0 [Build xxxxx]

How to resolve this issue?

This message may be displayed under the following circumstances:
Unknown array state (in configurations that worked previously)
The array is in an unknown state or the devices are not recognized correctly. Remove all cables from the controller. Please verify the cable connector location prior to removing any device. The devices should be reattached to the same connectors on the controller. Power on the machine when no devices are attached to the controller. If the message is no longer displayed, reattach the device to their proper connectors.
If you continue to receive the error after reattaching the device, please contact Adaptec technical support for further assistance.
Motherboard compatibility issues (new configurations only)
First please make sure the RAID controller has the latest version of BIOS available installed. Controller firmware/BIOS updates can be downloaded from our Support site.
Contact the motherboard manufacturer to obtain the latest BIOS version. It is also recommended to test the controller in another motherboard to verify the controller functions as expected.
Additional error messages may be shown during system boot. Please see below messages for a resolution:
Get Bus Info Command Failed:
This error message so far have been seen with the Intel DX58SO motherboard only. Intel fixed the issue with BIOS Version 3301.
In case that a different motherboard is used, please get with the motherboard manufacturer to obtain the latest BIOS.
Unknown Firmware Error:
A previous firmware/BIOS flash update of the controller failed or the firmware/BIOS has become corrupt. A mode 0 flash should be done. Please see Answer ID 13092 for details.
